about us
In 1950, the Swiss Helvetia insurance group decided to set up a subsidiary company called ELVIA in Zurich, exclusively concerned with the sale of travel security. The special requirements associated with selling travel insurance policies – in association with travel bookings – called for a product and marketing strategy that was different from normal insurance sales. ELVIA Reiseversicherungs-Gesellschaft was established as the baggage insurer for SBB (Swiss Railways) – with one big idea in mind: that travel and tourism would boom in the future. In 2000, ELVIA merged with the French company Mondial Assistance. Since the beginning of 2011, Mondial Assistance, the leading international provider of assistance, travel insurance and personal services, has operated under the name Allianz Global Assistance. With a market share of 80% with the tour operators, we are the leading provider in the Swiss travel insurance sector. We are known for our quality and innovations, achieving a turnover of CHF 98 million with approximately 142,000 insurance cases per year.
